Extract Numbers from Text Online
Extract Numbers is a browser-based number extraction tool that helps you quickly find numeric values inside text. Instead of manually searching through a long paragraph, report, document, spreadsheet or copied data, you can paste the content here and extract the numbers in seconds.
The tool is designed for everyday text processing as well as more structured data-cleaning tasks. It can work with integers, decimal values, signed numbers, numbers containing common separators, currency-related values and digits from several writing systems. You can keep duplicates, remove duplicates, preserve the original formatting, sort results or download the extracted values.
Because the primary processing happens in your browser, ordinary text extraction does not require creating an account or sending your text to a Text & Data Tools server.
What Is an Extract Numbers Tool?
An Extract Numbers tool identifies numeric content inside a larger block of text and separates those values from the surrounding words. For example, a sentence such as “The company sold 1,250 products in 2025 for $45,500.50” contains several numeric values. Rather than searching for every number manually, the extractor identifies them automatically.
This is useful when text contains a mixture of words, punctuation and numbers. It can be particularly helpful when preparing information for spreadsheets, calculations, reports, research, data analysis or other text-processing tasks.
How to Extract Numbers from Text
- Paste or type your text into the Input area.
- Select the extraction mode that matches your task.
- Choose the desired output separator.
- Decide whether duplicate values should be removed.
- Choose whether number formatting should be preserved.
- Select Extract Numbers.
- Copy the results or download them as TXT or CSV.
For short text, live extraction can update the results while you type. For larger documents, the application can process the imported content separately so the interface remains usable.
How the Number Extractor Works
The extraction engine is designed around numeric characters rather than assuming that every document is written in English. It recognizes common decimal and grouping patterns and also understands several Unicode decimal-digit systems.
For example, the engine can identify values such as 25, 45.50, -17.5, +25, 1,250 and 10,000.50. It can also recognize Arabic-Indic digits such as ٢٥ and Persian digits such as ۱۲.
Number formatting can be ambiguous. A comma may be a thousands separator in one context and a decimal separator in another. For that reason, the tool does not blindly assume that every comma or period has the same meaning. The Preserve number formatting option is useful when you want to keep the original representation rather than normalize it.
Whole Numbers
Whole-number mode focuses on integer values. Formatted integers such as 1,000 can still be recognized as whole numbers when the grouping pattern clearly indicates thousands formatting.
Decimal Numbers
Decimal mode is useful when you need measurements, prices, percentages or other values that contain a decimal component. You can choose whether decimal mode should return decimals only or decimals together with whole numbers.
Negative and Signed Numbers
Signed values such as -10, -25.5 and +25 are supported. Unicode minus characters such as −100 are also handled where practical.
Extract Numbers from Documents
You do not have to copy everything manually from a document. Supported files can be uploaded through the Upload File button or dropped directly into the input area. The application extracts readable text from the file and then sends that text through the same number extraction engine used for pasted text.
Common text formats such as TXT, CSV, TSV, JSON, XML, HTML, Markdown and log files can be processed directly. DOCX files can be converted to readable text in the browser, while spreadsheet files can be read as worksheet data before number extraction.
File processing is subject to browser memory and document complexity. The application uses a practical file-size safeguard rather than pretending that every enormous document can be processed instantly on every phone.
Extract Numbers from PDF Files
PDF files can contain text in many different forms. Text-based PDFs with selectable text can generally be processed by the browser PDF parser used by this tool. The extracted text is then passed to the normal number-processing engine.
A scanned PDF is different. If a PDF contains only images of pages and no embedded text, ordinary PDF text extraction cannot reliably identify the words or numbers shown in those images. Such a document requires optical character recognition, or OCR, which is intentionally not claimed as part of this tool unless an OCR engine is actually installed and used.
Extract Numbers from Word Documents
DOCX files can contain paragraphs, tables and other document structures. The browser-side Word parser used here converts readable DOCX content into text before extraction.
This makes the workflow useful for reports, notes, lists, invoices and other Word documents containing numerical information. The extracted results are still handled by the same engine, so you can use duplicate removal, sorting and output formatting after the document is parsed.
Extract Numbers from CSV and Spreadsheet Files
Spreadsheet files are frequently used as sources of numeric data. XLSX and XLS files can contain multiple sheets and different data types. The browser-side spreadsheet parser reads the workbook and converts worksheet information into text suitable for number extraction.
This can help when you want to collect numeric values from a spreadsheet without manually selecting every cell. Remember that spreadsheet formatting and formulas may have meanings beyond their displayed text, so the extracted output should be reviewed when precision is important.
Extract Numbers from Arabic and Other Languages
Modern documents are multilingual, so a useful number extractor should not assume that every digit looks like an English digit. This tool supports Unicode-oriented processing and recognizes Arabic-Indic digits such as ٠١٢٣٤٥٦٧٨٩ and Persian or Extended Arabic-Indic digits such as ۰۱۲۳۴۵۶۷۸۹.
For example, the Arabic sentence لدي ٢٥ كتابًا و٣ أقلام. contains the values ٢٥ and ٣. Persian text such as من ۱۲ کتاب دارم. contains ۱۲. Mixed-language content such as The total السعر is 250 دولار. can also be processed without requiring the surrounding words to be English.
The input uses automatic text direction so Arabic, Persian, Urdu and Hebrew can remain readable while the interface itself stays consistent. Extracted results are copied and downloaded as Unicode text, which helps preserve multilingual data.
Common Uses for a Number Extractor
Extracting numbers can be useful in many situations. Common examples include:
- Data cleaning: isolate numeric information before preparing a dataset.
- Research: collect figures from articles, notes and research material.
- Spreadsheets: gather values from copied spreadsheet or worksheet data.
- Finance: identify prices, amounts and numerical figures from text.
- Programming: quickly isolate numeric strings from logs and test data.
- Document analysis: identify figures in reports and documents.
- Education: collect numerical examples from study material.
- Data preparation: turn mixed text into a cleaner numeric list.
- Text processing: prepare numbers for another processing step.
- Content analysis: inspect numerical information in large text samples.
Extract Numbers vs. Manually Finding Numbers
Manually searching through a long document is slow and makes it easy to miss a value, especially when numbers appear beside punctuation, currency symbols or different languages. An automated extractor can scan the text consistently and present the results in one place.
The difference becomes more noticeable as the amount of text increases. Instead of repeatedly searching for digits, copying individual values and checking for duplicates, you can perform the extraction once and then decide how the results should be formatted.
Why Use Text & Data Tools?
Text & Data Tools is built around practical browser-based utilities for working with text and structured information. The goal is to provide focused tools that perform a specific task without unnecessary registration steps or complicated interfaces.
The Extract Numbers tool follows that approach by combining a large editing area, document support, multilingual number recognition, configurable output and straightforward export options. The interface is responsive so the same workflow can be used on phones, tablets and desktop computers.
When available on your website, related utilities such as text cleaning, duplicate removal, list comparison, list merging, text extraction, word counting and character counting can complement a number-extraction workflow. Link those tools only when the corresponding pages actually exist on Text & Data Tools.
Privacy and Browser-Based Processing
Privacy is an important part of the tool's design. Ordinary pasted text is processed directly in the browser. Supported document files are also intended to be parsed locally rather than uploaded to a Text & Data Tools processing server.
This architecture can be especially useful for text that you do not want to send to an external service. Nevertheless, browser security and third-party library loading still depend on the environment in which the page is opened, so users should follow their organization's data-handling policies when working with highly confidential material.
